I LOVE animals and I know I'm not the only one because I have them in the studio often with clients. Pets are part of the family, so I completely understand if you want to have them in your engagement photos. Here are a couple of tips to make sure we all have a great experience.
First, let me know ahead of time if you plan to have them as part of your session. That way we can make arrangements regarding location and logistics. The easiest way to incorporate pets into your session is by bringing a friend or family member along to help. In most cases, your pets will only be included in a third of your engagement photos. The rest of the time we will want to focus on just you two. Bringing someone along to take care of the animals after, or even to take them home, will keep us focused on getting your portraits done. Because we all know how adorably distracting a cute, bored animal can be.
Have treats and squeaky at the ready. Even the most well-behaved pets can get overly excited at an engagement session. There are so many people, knew sites and sounds, plus a lady with a camera permanently attached to her face. Having their favorite treat will help keep them motivated and a squeaky toy will help me to get their attention so they can be the star of the photo.
Bring a nice leash. Just like your new wardrobe, take the time to put your pet in a nice collar and leash or harness.
